We're all Americans

I was just reading another of those political blogs when something that was said struck me like lightening. When we use the phrase "We are all Americans" what exactly does that mean? In North America we have the United States, but we also have Canada as well as Mexico, and that just covers North America. What we need to do is have respect for others, regardless of where they are from. Just a little food for thought.
